چکیده

In a world with increasing numbers of robots operating in everyday human spaces, the employees at this robotics company are pioneers, intelligent point-to-point path planning and autonomous transport operations 150+ factory warehouse locations North America. At time research, consisted 250 employees. Unlike other industry models, their designed to operate people mixed human-machine yet no HRI style evaluations had previously been run robots. As early observers how workers robot interact, across varied job roles ranging from technology design customer relations, work sought leverage employee knowledge experiences identify opportunities for improving communication capabilities robots, resulting addition several state communications initial software set leveraging both employee- social literature- sourced ideas communicating lights. To achieve researcher spent summer onsite company, getting know stack culture. Her research activities included: (1) company-wide survey relative robot’s light, sound, motion was sent out analyzed, (2) development three new light sets (car-like, sweeping, heartbeat) five overall states (blocked, goal, turning, idle), (3) user study evaluating developed current default patterns, all significantly legibility targeted communications: blocked, idle. Our findings advance which patterns is best different states, showing that eye-catching lights high urgency such as subtle low Finally, latest release has deployed subset these currently client sites, i.e., anyone who updates will benefit results. This deployment ground future researchers exploring end-users sites have responded new, more communicative patterns.

Integrating Low-Cost Robot Devices into Pyro

Pyro is a Python-based software environment for robot control that is designed to minimize the necessity of programmers “having to worry about the low-level details of the underlying hardware.” Pyro supports multiple robot platforms, but until recently, most of them were prohibitively expensive for departments with large interest in robotics but with low budgets. This paper describes our experi...

Towards High-performance Robot Plans with Grounded Action Models: Integrating Learning Mechanisms into Robot Control Languages

For planning in the domain of autonomous robots, abstraction of state and actions is indispensable. This abstraction however comes at the cost of suboptimal execution, as relevant information is ignored. A solution is to maintain abstractions for planning, but to fill in precise information on the level of execution. To do so, the control program needs models of its own behavior, which could be...

Integrating a flexible anthropomorphic, robot hand into the control, system of a humanoid robot

This article presents the approaches taken to integrate a novel anthropomorphic robot hand into a humanoid robot. The requisites enabling such a robot hand to use everyday objects in an environment built for humans are presented. Starting from a design that resembles the human hand regarding size and movability of the mechatronical system, a low-level control system is shown providing reliable ...

Integrating active localization into high-level robot control systems

High-level control systems are designed to enable mobile robots to successfully perform complex missions such as ooce delivery and surveillance tasks. For that purpose they have to control, coordinate, and monitor diierent kinds of subtasks like navigation, manipulation, and perception. An important aspect of the eeec-tiveness of high-level control systems is the ability to cope with failures t...

Integrating human observer inferences into robot motion planning

Our goal is to enable robots to produce motion that is suitable for human-robot collaboration and coexistence. Most motion in robotics is purely functional, ideal when the robot is performing a task in isolation. In collaboration, however, the robot’s motion has an observer, watching and interpreting the motion. In this work, we move beyond functional motion, and introduce the notion of an obse...
